Tools: SolidWorks, ANSYS AIM
For our second year Numerical Methods and FEA course, my group and I conducted a finite element analysis for thermal distribution of brake discs using ANSYS AIM. The objective was to ensure a longer life and higher safety of disc brakes, and through various studies, we used experimental data to vary parameters and improve the thermal distribution. We created a model in SolidWorks, and conducted a heat transfer taking conduction, convection and radiation into account. We varied the mesh sizes also until convergence. We were granted the 'Best Technical' Award for our attempts to model the transient problem as steady state.
